CONSULTATION AND EVALUATION

 

Role:

  • Consulted senior staff and reviewed the operation of clinical governance in a DHB giving practical recommendations for improvements.
  • Evaluated stakeholder perception of the organisation’s external communications and developed a communication strategy. 
  • Evaluated systems used to accredit postgraduate programmes for registration and gave recommendations for improvements after wide consultation in the sector (in conjunction with members of the Healthy Solutions collaborative).
  • Researched and evaluated funding opportunities for post graduate training.
  • Evaluated the impact of the differing competency and discipline requirements for regulated health practitioners under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001 and the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCAA).
  • Reviewed the capacity and capability of the corporate functions of a not for profit organisation.
  • Evaluated the pilot “ready for work programme” for international medical graduates after consultation with stakeholders and course participants. The programme is now funded on an ongoing basis to help IMGs acculturate to New Zealand.
  • Researched and reported on the retention of health professionals in the "third age".

REGULATION


Health and professional regulation


Role:

  • Identified best practices and opportunities for collaboration for the regulatory authorities operating under the HPCAA.
  • Researched international changes in health regulation to identify best practices and opportunities for collaboration by the regulatory authorities operating under the HPCAA.
  • Reviewed health professional competencies to assess gaps in the framework of a regulatory Board.
  • Peer reviewed work of the Ministry of Health during the review of the HPCAA.
  • Involved in the review of the HPCAA with the Ministry of Health
  • Assessed the requirements of, and need for, health professional regulation.

International medical regulation


Role:

  • Advised the PNG Medical Board on health regulation and helped develop a draft Act for the regulation of over 25 health professional groups in PNG.
  • Chaired a working party that reviewed different jurisdictions’ entrance examinations, the resulting research is to be published internationally and has been used to develop bilateral recognition of country entrance examinations.
  • Developed a fast track credentialing system for competent doctors for the IAMRA secretariat.
  • Assist IAMRA review information on international medical regulation for the World Health Organisation.

Role:

Role:

  • Acted as CEO for nine months during establishment period, involved in business planning, advocacy, communication, work with NGOs, membership growth and assessment of needs of the organisation for the next stage of its development. Set up systems to enhance membership communication. Board, Executive meetings, AGM and Forum organised, constitution changed to meet the organisation’s needs.
  • Assisted in interviewing and appointment processes for senior staff.

Role:

  • Reviewed senior staff roles to assess best division of work and ways of working and developed practical ways to assist functioning without further major structural reorganisation.
  • Researched and advised on human resource processes and policies.
  • Developed manual on organisational policies to guide staff.
  • Researched doctors’ health programmes and made recommendations on future policy directions for programmes.
  • Advised PNG Medical Board on best practices and developed policy manual to enable implementation of all aspects of regulation.

Advocacy


Role:

  • Advocated on the implementation of the Health Practitioners Index to gain commitment from the regulatory authorities covered by the HPCAA.
  • Advocated for introduction of a new regulatory Bill in PNG.
  • Assisted to organise meetings to gain commitment for Parliamentary Diabetes advocacy groups in New Zealand and the Pacific.
